'My calisthenics program can be found here: http://oldschool-calisthenic.ro/calisthenics-program/ This is my second workout of the week, the first one was a cardio session including a long-distance run on the nearby mountains, and now it’s about time I challenge myself with an enormous volume, with hundreds of reps, something similar to what soldiers do in the army for conditioning. So I pushed myself over the limits and did a high volume upper-body session with 225 pull-ups and another 225 pushups. In total, I did a volume of 450 reps, which is pretty great for training my muscular endurance and shred the muscles. The workout consists of a pyramid, with short breaks where the whole point is to keep training even if that means cheating a bit on the range of motion and maybe even on form. It starts with a set of a single pull-up and, then with the next set of 2 reps, then another of 3 -up until you reach the final set of 15 reps. Then you go back with 14 reps and so on until you have only one left. The same strategy must be applied to pushups. However, I found these pushups to be too easy compared to the intensity I felt when I pulled. Therefore, if you want to make it tougher, then double the amount of reps for each set of pushups. In this way, the highest set of 15 would then be one set of 30. Why would do workouts like this? Well, the military training style has been around for quite some time and calisthenics, especially the most basic and old school methods include routines like this. Hence I think it’s also my job to reveal some of them here. We usually do them to create lean muscle and to develop a beautiful body, but in reality, soldiers do it mostly because they have to enhance their performance level. They need strength, durability and endurance. For soldiers, that means being fit, athletic, strong and resistant. My workout provides those results and if I managed to build my body with them, then so you can! I also need to mention the extreme muscle soreness I was left with after completing this insane workout. So prepare yourself because it is going to be rough! Keep a sharp and right mindset like in the army.
